ALICE HERNANDEZ

TOMS RIVER, N.J. — Alice Hernandez, 94, of Toms River, N.J., formerly of Omar, departed this life Saturday, September 1, 2012, in New Jersey.

Born January 27, 1918, at San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, Mexico, she was a daughter of the late Luis G. and Jovita Alba Jordan. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Luis Hernandez; brothers, Luis Jordan, Gene Jordan, Albert Jordan, Edward Jordan and Alfonso Jordan, and son, Gene E. Hernandez.

Alice was a homemaker, mother, and a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Logan. She was born in Mexico but, at a young age, moved to West Virginia and lived in the Omar area until her 89th birthday when she moved to Magnolia Gardens, an assisted living facility, in Toms River. In West Virginia she was active in her community and in her church. While a member of St. Mary’s Catholic in Holden, she was honored to be permitted to distribute Holy Communion. At Magnolia Gardens, Alice was friends with all the residents and staff and participated in all activities until her decline. Alice was happiest at home and enjoyed the simple pleasures of cooking, crocheting and walking with her neighbors. She was a loving, warm-hearted person who made lifelong friends of everyone she met. She will be missed by all.

Survivors include one son, Lt. Col. (USAF retired) Louis Jr. (Lydia “Jo”) Hernandez, from Manchester, N.J.; daughter, Mary H. (Bill) Guignard of San Francisco, Calif.; brother, Henry Jordan of Cross Lanes; sister, Lupe Pichardo of Mannington, and two grandchildren, Lisa (David) Kaes of Toms River, and Trisha Galagher of Louisville, Ky. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 8, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Yesu Golla officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
