CANTON, Ohio — Rasheedy Malouf Ammar, 96, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2012, at her home in Canton.
Preceding her in death was her husband Saleem, in 1985; son, S.A., Jr. in 1992; parents, Nassif and Saleeme Malouf; four brothers, Salim, Sahid, Abdnor and Jorge; four sisters, Olga Maluf de Jobim, Lourdes, Maria Afife Jabaily, and Allia Beder; a stepson, A.S. “Buddy” Ammar, and stepdaughter, Radine Ammar Queen.
A determined lady and fantastic cook, Rasheedy was born in Brazil and immigrated to Boston, Mass., in 1939. She was married in 1949 to Saleem Ammar and moved to Logan where she was active with the Logan Women’s Club and First Presbyterian Church. Later they moved to Bluefield, Va., and then Hollywood, Fla., and she moved to Canton in 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly (Joe) Joseph of Canton; six grandchildren, Craig, Aaron, Rebecca (Eric Paliswat) and Elizabeth Joseph, all of Canton, and Alexandra and Olivia Ammar of Bluefield, Va.; a great-granddaughter, Zoë Elizabeth Testa of Cuyahoga Falls, Va.; a sister, Adelia (John) Samaha of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughters-in-law, Betty Ammar and Debrah Ammar; son-in-law, Earle Queen; numerous nieces and nephews in South America, Massachusetts and Florida, and many special loved ones who knew her as “Mama Rae” or “Citi.”
The family wishes to thank PRN Staffing and the patient care staff of Senior Independence Hospice for their compassionate and selfless attention to their loved one. Friends may call on the family at Rossi Funeral Home from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 13. A brief memorial service will follow with Rev. Bob Linz officiating.
A graveside service will be at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Bluefield, W.Va., Friday at 1:30 p.m.
