Two people were arrested in connection the theft of an ATV which allegedly occurred on August 7.
Joe Lewis Adams, aka Weazel, 30, of Logan, was arrested and charged on September 1 with grand larceny, trespassing, petit larceny, conspiracy, tampering with an auto and escape.
According to the criminal complaint filed by arresting officers M.E. Dickerson and J.R. Adkins, both with the Logan Police Department, a traffic stop was conducted on Dingess Street when officers observed Adams on an “ATV and was also stopped due to felony warrants.” While officers were handcuffing two others, Adams fled. He was found later and taken back into custody. The other charges stem from an alleged incident where Adams, along with Darby “Wes” Frye, 41, of Stollings, took an ATV belonging to Arthur Willis by “cutting the chain and breaking the ignition box to ‘hot wire’ the ATV.” The ATV was taken reportedly taken to the Sunbeam Trailer Park at Ethel. On August 25, officers Dickerson and J.R. Conley responded to a “stated location where the ATV was recovered.”
Stollings was arrested and charged on September 1 for grand larceny, tampering with an auto, trespassing and conspiracy.
They were arraigned in Magistrates Court and bail was set at $25,000 each.
Also arrested in connection with the alleged ATV theft was Cherell Bernice Murphy, 36, of Logan. The complaint on Murphy states that she “did have intimate knowledge and participate in the taking of a 2003 Suzuki Z400 ATV and parts from the ATV by her boyfriend and suspect Darby “Wes” Frye and Joe “Weazel” Adams from the victim Chad Baisden.” The complaint states that Murphy knew the ATV was being kept at Ethel and did ride the vehicle on numerous occasions during the investigation. The value of the ATV was $1,500.
Murphy was charged with grand larceny and conspiracy. She was arraigned on August 30 and bail was set at $5,000.
