WELCH — West Virginia First Lady/President of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College Joanne Jaeger Tomblin, local dignitaries, college staff and community members cut the ceremonial gold ribbon Thursday to officially open Southern’s office located at 92 McDowell Street in Welch.
McDowell County Commission President Gordon Lambert said that opening the new location “is another great day for McDowell County.”
According to Tomblin, the office will provide the connection needed for growth within the community. She laid out the framework for the creation of an advisory board to assist in identifying programs to assist in furthering educational studies and preparing for the workforce.
Southern’s academic leadership spoke briefly to outline the programs available through the office.
“Education is the key to moving forward and Southern is proud to work together with the community to meet the needs,” said Tomblin.
