The congregation of The Church of God of Prophecy on Pine Street in Logan will honor their pastor, Bishop Elbert Johnson Jr., with Appreciation Day services and dinner beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday October 21, 2012.
Bishop Johnson was called into ministry in 1980. He was ordained as pastor at the Church of God of Prophecy on Pine Street in September 2006 and was licensed as Bishop in August 2010 in the organization.
Born and raised at Pine Creek of Omar, Johnson was one of 13 children born to the late Elbert and Runyon Johnson. His wife of 45 years, Lynn “Jerri” Hale Johnson, is the daughter of the late Oscar Taylor and Edna Mae Varney Hale and one of eight children. They are the parents of two sons and one daughter: Elby (Eileen) Johnson of Melville and Bryan (Christina) Johnson and Courtney Dawn Johnson, both of Wilkinson. They have four grandsons: Josh Johnson of Melville, Justin Johnson of Whitman and Luke and Caleb Johnson of Wilkinson.
The couple are both Logan High School graduates along with their three children and grandson Josh.
Johnson’s hobbies include gardening, cooking, especially frying chicken, and watching SciFi and westerns, and occasionally four wheeling with family. He loves to read and study God’s Word and discussing and sharing it with others.
