It was a happy season opener for the Chapmanville Regional High School girls’ basketball team on Tuesday night at Wayne.
The Lady Tigers won, 58-38, over the Pioneers and stand at 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Cardinal Conference.
Junior point guard Kristen DesRocher led Chapmanville with a 17-point effort. She neared triple-double numbers as she also had nine steals and eight rebounds. She also handed out four assists.
Katelynn Hall was close to a double-double as the senior forward/center recorded 11 points and nine boards.
Katelynn Manns and Jessica Rideout each finished with seven points. Hailey Price and Autumn Baisden tallied five each, while Cheyenne Meeks had four and Hillary Hainer one.
Chapmanville also won the JV game over Wayne, 63-17, behind the 14-point effort from Kortni Packo. Autumn Blankenship had 10 points.
The Lady Tigers are scheduled to have their home opener on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Herbert Hoover in another Cardinal Conference matchup. The Chapmanville JV girls square off with the Tug Valley girls in the opener at 5:30 p.m.
