It was a historical night for the Logan High School girls’ basketball team on Thursday night when the Lady Cats went to Huntington and beat the Highlanders for the first time in school history.
Unranked Logan topped Class AAA No. 6 Huntington, 56-55 to improve to 2-2 on the season.
The Lady Cats trailed by 22 at half, 36-14.
After allowing an opening bucket in the third quarter, Logan outscored Huntington 25-5 in the stanza to cut it to two. LHS then went on to victory over the Highlanders, a Class AAA sectional foe of Logan’s.
Kyra Cline led Logan with a 26-point effort. She torched the nets all night long, canning eight big 3-point shots.
Freshman center Monica Mitchell had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Sophomore guard Shayna Gore had eight points and 11 assists.
Rachelle Toppings finished with seven points and six steals.
Hannah Tothe added two points and Summer Collins one.
Kiana Evans tallied 24 points to lead Huntington (5-1).
The Lady Cats, coached by Kevin Gertz, were scheduled to host Capital on Saturday. Logan then hosts Tolsia on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
