HOLDEN, W.Va. — Clarence Rankin, 87, of Holden, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012, at his home following a brief illness.
Born May 31, 1925, in Huntington, he was a son of the late Espie and Gertrude Cowan Rankin. Also preceding him in death were four sons: Robert, Clarence, Ralph and Tim; one daughter, Tara; one granddaughter, Elizabeth; one grandson, Michael; one great-granddaughter, Abygail; two brothers, Charles and Lawrence, and three sisters, Blonzetta, Virginia and Mary Alice.
Clarence was a veteran, having served in the Navy during World War II. He was a retired coal miner of Island Creek Coal Company, a former employee of Logan General Hospital and a former member of Bethel AME Church of Holden.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 68 years, Mary Rankin; four daughters, Shirley Jones, Sydnor Magnolia (Mack) Davis and Gloria Davis, all of Logan, and Teresa (James) Floyd of Holden; six grandchildren, special granddaughter Melinda Davis of Logan, Kenneth Hamlet of Huntington, Sara Hamlet of Holden, Curtis Floyd and Chrissy Davis of Logan and Felicia Epphart of Monaville; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two brothers, Henry Rankin of Pittsburg, Pa., and Bobby Rankin of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Edith Hagler of Tucson; other extended family and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 22, at Sulphur Springs Missionary Baptist Church at Holden with Rev. Ronald Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Visitation will begin at noon Saturday at the church.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and granddaughters will serve as flower bearers.
Pond Funeral Home of Aracoma is in charge of the arrangements.
