Stacie V. Hutton, the Mom’s Choice Award winning author of Shovelful of Sunshine, will be signing copies of her book this Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at the Chief Logan State Park Lodge and Conference Center and again Saturday evening at the Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. Christmas Homecoming Concert at the Coalfield Jamboree in Logan.
Shovelful of Sunshine is a children’s book paying tribute to coal miners and their families by a woman who grew up in the coalfields. Illustrated by Cheryl Harness, Shovelful of Sunshine is a story of hope and inspiration that shows how a young girl copes with her father’s perilous job as a coal miner.
“My book was inspired by the letters of coal miners.” Hutton said. “I want the whole nation to know that miners and their families are courageous and patriotic – that miners helped to build this country. America needs to know exactly who these men and women are – why they’re so important to life in our great nation. As a matter of fact, I’d like to have a coal miner or coal miner’s family member sign the book along with me; they’re a real inspiration and the backbone of our nation.”
Another famous West Virginian, “Rocket Boys/October Sky” author Homer Hickam recommends the children’s book.
“Shovelful of Sunshine is a delightful book about a coal miner’s young daughter that I thoroughly enjoyed,” said Hickam. “It is a thoughtful story that is also superbly illustrated. I am proud to recommend it!”
Coal miner’s son and “America’s Got Talent” winner Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. wrote the foreword for the book.
“Shovelful of Sunshine will give you a glimpse into the lives of these wonderful people that I’m so thankful to call my friends,” said Landau
Hutton will be signing her book before and after Landau’s Saturday night Christmas Homecoming concert at the Coalfield Jamboree. Tickets are available at all area Logan Bank and Trust locations and at www.coalfieldjamboree.com
Landau’s Christmas Homecoming concert is made possible in part by Mike Ferrell Toyota, LB&T and The Hatfield and McCoy Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. Attendees who bring a non-perishable food donation for area food banks can attend a special after show meet and greet with Landau and the band.
