WHITMAN, W.Va. — William E. Burgess, 92, of Whitman, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012, at the Cabell Huntington Hospital.
Born June 20, 1920, in Logan, he was a son of the late John and Margaret Burgess. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Marie Burgess; three brothers, Earnest, John and Bobby Burgess, and three grandsons, Earl, Charles and Shawn.
William was retired from the Appalachian Power Company and was a devoted and faithful member of the No. 20 Whitman Community Church for over 35 years.
Survivors include his daughters, Evelyn (Steve) Worley of Whitman and Doris Campbell of South Carolina; one son, Lawrence (Nancy) Burgess of Omar; brothers, Ellery (Kay) Burgess of Logan, Mick (Gloria) Burgess of Sarah Ann and James (Rose) Burgess of South Carolina; three granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 3, at the No. 20 Whitman Community Church with the Rev. Joaquine Ooten officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
