HARTS, W.Va. — Mitchell Lee Vance, 56, of Harts, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Cabell Huntington Hospital after a long journey of battling an ongoing illness here on this earth.
Born October 9, 1956, in Holden, he was a son of the late Ernest Jr. and Betty Blankenship Vance.
Mitchell was a wonderful and compassionate member of this community and there is not a kinder soul anyone could have had the opportunity to meet. Mitchell was a retired employee with CSX transportation where he built long lasting friendships and cherished those he worked with. Mitchell loved his football and it was always a joy to hear him shout “Let’s Go Mountaineers!” Mitchell loved his church family. He belonged to East Fork Freewill Baptist Church in Ranger. He was a wonderful loving husband, father, brother, papaw, uncle and friend!
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife: Sybil Kelley Vance; two sons: Mitchell Lee Vance II and Rev. Anthony Vance, both of Harts; daughter: Angel Vance of Harts; two brothers: Rev. Ernest Ray (Linda) Vance of Branchland and Rodney (Jeanne) Vance of Ranger; grandson: Conner Higginbotham; granddaughter: Shelby Vance and a host of nieces and nephews and other loved ones who thought the world of him.
Services will be held at noon Thursday, January 10, at Handley Funeral Home, 7350 Lynn Ave, Hamlin, with Rev. Frankie Frye and Rev. Michael Browning officiating.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
