Mayes faces shoplifting and drug possession charges

LOGAN – Alicia Dawn Price Miller Mayes, 29, of Jeffrey, was arrested after Logan Police Department Officers Dickerson and Adkins responded to a call from Wal-Mart about an accused shoplifter.


The officers were told Mayes entered the store, went to the Home Goods Department, removed several picture frames and left without paying for them.


Mayes gave the officers a false Social Security number when they were speaking with her. After investigating further, the officers discovered Mayes had been convicted of shoplifting on July 26, 2003, and March 21, 2010.


When the officers made an incident to arrest search of Mayes’ purse, they found a brown paper containing two burgundy pills, later identified by the Wal-Mart pharmacist as Ambian 5 mg, a Schedule IV controlled substance. Mayes had no prescription for the drug.


The officers asked Mayes if she had any other items or narcotics on her person and she told them no several times, then stated she had more pills inside her bra. Also located in her bra was approximately $400.


The total value of the goods involved in the shoplifting charge was $46.64.


Mayes was arrested and charged with shoplifting 3rd, possession of a controlled substance and obstructing. She was released under $5,000 bond.
