STOLLINGS, W.Va. — Hugh G. Fortney, 84, of Avis Circle at Stollings, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Logan Regional Medical Center.
Born September 8, 1928, at Jones Run near Lumberport, he was a son of the late Hugh and Martha Martin Fortney. Also preceding him in death was his sister, Mary Rebecca Hess.
Mr. Fortney was a 1947 graduate of Lumberport High School and was the first student from Lumberport to attend Shinnston Vocational School. He was an educator for 14 years at Logan High School where he was a welding instructor. He then went on to begin the REFAB business. REFAB became a successful mine machinery and repair refabrication business. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting and simply the outdoors. He was most proud of helping to educate, train and mentor many men throughout his career.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Jackie Fortney; two sons, Hugh Scott, his wife Kimberly, of Charles Town, and Michael, his wife Tammy, of Chapmanville; four grandchildren, Lane and Atley of Charles Town and Alexis and Madison of Chapmanville, and two brothers, George Fortney of Jekyll Island, Ga., and Earnest Fortney of Columbus, Ohio.
Services for Mr. Fortney will be private.
