The Logan High School girls’ basketball team got back on track with Monday afternoon’s 72-52 win at home over Class A county rival Man at Logan’s Willie Akers Arena.
The matinee was played before the LHS student body.
Logan, coming off last Friday night’s 56-52 loss at home to Class AAA No. 1 and unbeaten Greenbrier East at Logan’s King Coal Classic, improved to 9-4 on the season.
Man dropped to 10-5. The Lady Billies had won 59-26 last Saturday afternoon at home over Sherman.
Shayna Gore led the Lady Cats with 29 points. She sank three 3-pointers and was 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Monica Mitchell and Kyra Cline also reached double digits in scoring for Logan with 14 and 11 points respectively.
Hannah Tothe had seven, while Kelsey Kirk added two points for Logan. Hannah Adkins and Amanda Williamson netted one point apiece.
Summer Sword came off the bench to lead the Lady Billies with a 25-point effort. She sank two 3s on the afternoon.
Morgan Conn and Taylor Whited tossed in nine each. Hannah Harvey had five. Jennifer Shull and Tessa Mullins had two each.
Logan led by as many as 21 points late in the game.
The Lady Cats held leads of 21-12 after one quarter, 39-24 at the half and 52-38 after three.
In Man’s win over Sherman on Saturday, Sword poured in 28 points for Man, while Conn had 12. Whited and Keeley Porter had four each, while Harvey and Mullins had two each and Shull one.
Sherman was led by Sarah Massey’s 10 points.
With Monday’s win, Logan swept the season series with the Lady Billies.
The Lady Billies are scheduled to go to Mount View on Wednesday night and travel to Tug Valley on Feb. 4.
Logan has another county clash on Wednesday night at Chapmanville Regional in the first meeting between the two teams this season. LHS then goes to Morgantown on Saturday.
