Harts advances to Black Diamond semifinals

HARTS — The Harts Middle School boys’ basketball team advanced to the Black Diamond Conference Tournament semifinals with Saturday’s 46-28 win at home over George Washington Middle School at the Harts gym.

No. 3 seed Harts is scheduled to play Madison on Thursday at 6 p.m. in one of the two semifinal games. Poca battles with Hamlin in the other semifinal at 7:30 p.m. at Harts.

The two winners will then meet in the conference championship game.

The Lions led 11-9 after one quarter, 27-13 at the half and 33-20 after three. Harts then outscored GW 13-8 in the fourth to set the final score.

Kyle Browning and Drew Williamson each tossed in 13 points to lead the Lions to victory. Browning also had four rebounds, while Williamson hit three 3-pointers and also had four rebounds and four steals.

Caleb Ellis also broke into double digits in scoring with 12 points.

C.J. Dalton added six points on a pair of treys for Harts. He also had two steals.

Carson Toney chipped in with a bucket and three steals for the Lions.

No. 2-seeded Madison advanced to the semifinal round after beating No. 7 Chapmanville Middle School 67-53 on Saturday. Top-seeded Poca moved on with a 57-25 win on Saturday over No. 8 Sherman in tournament play.

Hamlin, seeded fourth, edged No. 5 Man Middle School, 27-26, on Saturday in the other quarterfinal game.

Sherman had won 44-29 over Van in one of the two Feb. 7 play-in games. Chapmanville prevailed 59-32 over Duval in the other first-round contest.
