Revenge is sweet.
Just ask the Man High School girls’ basketball team.
The Lady Billies avenged a loss earlier in the season at home to Charleston Catholic by going to the Irish’s own floor on Tuesday and walking away with a 46-45 victory.
Man, which is set to play in the Class A sectional tournament next week, improved to 13-6 on the season with the win.
The Lady Billies, which have gone 6-3 in their last nine contests, trailed Charleston Catholic 27-25 at the half after being tied at 17 after one. Man then outscored the Irish 10-7 in the third to take a 35-34 lead. The one-point margin held up as both teams netted 11 points in the fourth quarter.
Summer Sword led Man with 22 points. Mika McCoy had 12, while Jennifer Shull had five, Taylor Whited four and Morgan Conn three.
Charleston Catholic (7-12) was paced by senior Samantha Fletcher’s 19 points.
The Irish were just 17-for-67 from the floor for an ice-cold 25.3 percent. The Lady Billies shot the ball better as Man was 16-for-49 for 32.6 percent.
Man was 9-for-16 from the free throw line. The Irish were 7-for-14.
The Lady Billies were scheduled to close out the season on Wednesday at Class AAA No. 1-ranked Greenrbier East in a game which was added to the slate. The Spartans are 18-0.
