CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Mrs. Jessie G. Ballard, 94, of Chapmanville, was born March 2, 1918, at Ferrellsburg, a daughter of the late Charlie Mobley and Mima Maxine Walker Gore. She departed this life Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at her residence.
Mrs. Ballard was a retired school teacher, having begun her teaching career at the age of 17 in a one room school. She was a lifelong member of the Village Chapel Church of God (Holiness), where she had served as song and youth leader and was a longtime supporter of missions and Christian schools. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to feed people and was an excellent cook.
Also preceding her in death was her husband, to whom she devoted her life, George W. Ballard on November 4, 1990; four sisters, Nora Spencer, Bessie Estep, Leslie Gore and Dora Belcher, and four brothers, Tracy, Wilson, Charles and Boyd Gore.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen (Forrest) Wheeler of Salem, Ohio, and Sherry (June) Church of Chapmanville; grandchildren, Daniel Wheeler, Denise Brunk and Deborah Blowers; step-grandchildren, Jeff and Jay Church; great-grandchildren, Jewel, Jolene and Jessica Brunk, Nolan, Ryan and Kathryn Blowers and Hannah Wheeler and step-great-grandchildren, Beau, Conner and Ryan Church.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 23, at Village Chapel Church of God (Holiness) at Chapmanville with Rev. Allen Martin and Forrest Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
