The regular meeting of the Logan County Commission was one with a focus on children. Commission President prefaced hearing requests, saying economic conditions would play a role in how much the commission was able to distribute to the various community organizations.
The Buffalo Creek Watershed – Annual Children’s Fish Day had requested $13,000, but $10,000 was approved. That was the same amount as last year.
American Legion Post 19 is planning its 11th Annual Easter Egg Hunt and the commission approved $2,000 to support the event.
The Logan County Autism Association will be having its 3rd Annual Walk on April 20. The commission approved $500, the same amount as last year.
The Man Little League and the Chapmanvile AAU Basketball Team both had $500 approved.
The West Virginia Development Office presented a Resolution and grant application to the commission. The Governor’s Community Partnership program provides state grant funds for community and economic development projects throughout West Virginia. Funds are provided to the county for projects approved by the governor. The commission approved funding from the program to the Logan Buddy League and the Logan, Omar and Holden Little Leagues. The funds will be used to improve facilities and buy equipment.
The January report from the Dog Pound was submitted. The number of animals currently in the facility is 27 dogs and one cat. During the month, the activity reported included transporting 14 animals; euthanizing 14 animals; nine dogs and one cat were adopted; three animals were quarantined and one dog was returned to its owner. Collections for the month: $178 for adoptions and $21 in taxes.
The next regular meeting of the commission will be held on March 4 at 3 p.m.
