Jordan Simpson is beginning his West Virginia State University baseball career with a bang.
Simpson, a freshman shortstop from Man High School, ripped a two-run, walk-off homer last Saturday as he lifted West Virginia State to a 16-14 slugfest win over visiting Concord.
The Yellow Jackets scored 11 runs over the final two innings, including four in their final at bat.
Cody Smith tied the game with a two-run single, setting the table for Simpson’s heroics in his only time at bat.
Zach Cloxton, Andrew Pickering and Noah Blackhurst each had two hits for West Virginia State.
The Yellow Jackets currently stand at 9-12 overall and 8-5 in the WVIAC.
West Virginia State has since split a doubleheader on Wednesday against West Liberty, losing 12-8 in the opener and taking the nightcap 4-2.
