LOGAN, W.Va. — Mary Messer Cavendish, 59, of Logan, departed this life Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Logan Regional Medical Center; after a long hard fought battle with cancer she went home to be with the Lord.
Born September 22, 1953, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Joe W. and Mary F. Samples. Also preceding her in death was her husband, George “Bob” Cavendish; brothers, Roger Holt and Bill Samples, and sister, Bonnie Finley.
Mary was a retired supervisor at the Department of Health and Human Resources. She was a strong and courageous woman loved by all who touched the lives of countless friends and family. She will be remembered as an amazing, exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. The family would like to extend a special thank you to “Mary’s Girls” at the DHHR for your love and support.
Survivors include a daughter, Geneva Messer; grandson, Michael Anderson of Logan; sisters, Linda Alexander of Fort Myers, Fla., and Kellie McDonald of Morristown, Tenn.; many special nieces and nephews; best friends, Cheryl Dye and Kay Tomblin, and with a host of special friends.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Alvis Porter Jr. officiating. There will be no burial; Mary will be cremated following the services.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
James Funeral Home of Aracoma is in charge of arrangements.
