Spring has taken hold in Logan County, the flowers are blooming and the hills are getting back their lush green covering. It is a time for renewal, spring cleaning and working in the garden. It is also the time to be outdoors and renew or make a commitment to exercise and living a healthier life.
The Logan County Diabetes Coalition is encouraging Logan County residents to join them in walking 100 miles in 100 days. The program begins April 29, 2013, and ends on August 7, 2013.
The benefits of walking are many and include reducing the risk for illness, may eliminate the need for medication, will help with weight loss, lower blood pressure and alleviate stress.
Send your name and email address to email@example.com to sign up.
Track your miles. A pedometer will be provided to help track your steps. An average of 2,000 steps is a mile. Other forms of physical activity for a total of 20 minutes (swimming, biking, etc) are equivalent to one mile.
Each Monday morning, report your weekly mileage to firstname.lastname@example.org (to ensure accuracy of total mileage, please report mileage in a timely fashion).
Participants who complete the program will be entered in a drawing at the program’s end for a chance to win a year’s membership to either the Logan Recreational Center in Chapmanville or the Larry Joe Harless Center in Gilbert, for a family of four (restrictions apply). There will be one prize awarded.
