VERNER, W.Va. — Gary Freeland Grimmett, 69, of Verner, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, April 18, 2013, at CAMC General Division in Charleston after a sudden illness.
Born March 12, 1944, at Christian, he was a son of the late Freeland Adam and Elzora Browning Grimmett. Also preceding him in death was one daughter, Pamela Sue Grimmett, and a brother, Donald Lee Grimmett.
Gary loved helping others in any way he could. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 49 years, Shirley Mae Sparks Grimmett; two sons, Gary Kevin (LaVonda) Grimmett of Verner and Grady Homer (Sandra) Grimmett of Leon; four brothers, Louie Glen (Opal) Grimmett, James M. (Earnestine) Grimmett, Rev. Walter H. (Patricia) Grimmett, and Phillip (JoAnn) Grimmett, all of Verner; one sister, Lisa (Greg) Walls of Verner; three grandchildren, Trista Renee Grimmett of Lawrenceville, Ga., Branden Kevin Grimmett of Verner, and Whitney Savannah (Victor) Arreola of Statesville, N.C.; one great-granddaughter, Gracie Esperanza Arreola of Statesville; many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at the Verner Community Church with Rev. Walter H. Grimmett officiating. Burial will follow in Verner Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Saturday and one hour prior to services Sunday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Branden Grimmett, Victor Arreola, Wade Thomas, Eli Thomas, Adam Grimmett, James Grimmett, Justin Grimmett and Tanner Grimmett.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Kevin Grimmett and Grady Homer Grimmett.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man.
