The Chapmanville Regional High School track and field team went to Winfield last Friday and were led again by Andrew Workman, who placed fifth in the 200-meter dash.
The Chapmanville boys’ 4x100 relay team was fourth.
A total of 22 teams took part in the meet.
CRHS coach Joetta Thompson raised Workman’s efforts.
“There were about 60 boys competing in the 200,” Thompson said. “So Andrew did very well. Three of the top four were from Class AAA schools and we will not compete against them in the regionals or at state. There were 17 competitors in the 4x100. I have high hopes for that team to make it to states as well.”
Only one Class AA school beat Chapmanville at the meet — Herbert Hoover.
“I look for them to be one of our biggest competitors,” Coach Thompson said of the Huskies.
The CRHS track team is scheduled to go to the Gazette Relays on Friday and Saturday at Charleston’s Laidley Field.
The following week Chapmanville has the Cardinal Conference meet at Poca. The Class AA regionals are May 10.
