On two separate occasions, Richard Lee Elkins Jr., 28, of Lorado, is accused of entering the property of Apogee Coal Company, located at Kelly Mountain, and stealing copper cable from a large spool.
The amount taken each time was approximately 150 feet, each with an approximate value of $5,250.
Images were captured by a hidden surveillance camera. After a review of the images officers were able to positively identify the suspect.
The officers also received receipts from Vance’s recycling, signed by the suspect, indicating he had sold the copper there.
The copper was still located at Vance’s and it matched the description of the stolen copper.
Elkins was charged with grand larceny and may face prison from one to ten years and $2,500.
