The Logan County Commission held its regular meeting and heard several community requests.
Bernard L. Spaulding, attorney for Audrey Hinkle, submitted a petition to close an alley. Because the details are unclear about the property affected, the matter was taken under advisement and tentatively scheduled to be heard on July 8.
The commission approved a grant application for $1,675 to repair a sewer problem that has raw sewage standing in the community of Monaville. The repair will benefit 25 residents.
Mitchell Heights Mayor Michael Ferrell wrote to the commission asking for assistance to repair drainage pipes that are causing sinkholes in the highway. Ferrell’s letter said he had spoken with the West Virginia Department of Highways, who told him they take care of the surface of the road and not drainage pipes. He submitted an estimate for $24,201.40 to complete the repairs. The commission took the matter under advisement.
Steve Browning from the Logan Buddy League requested $2,938 to buy two sets of bleachers, which will seat 60 people. Currently, bleachers are borrowed and transported back and forth, which is a hardship for volunteers. The commission approved the request which will be paid by invoice up to $2,938.
Kaley Hensley, a student at Chapmanville Regional High School, requested assistance with expenses to participate in the People to People Ambassador Program, which is a 19-day educational program that will take place in Europe. The commission approved $500.

The commission approved the appointment of P. D. Clemens to the ambulance authority to fill the vacancy created by the death of Bob Mays.
