May 11, 2013

HARTS, W.Va. — Jo Vizcarra, 69, of Harts, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, May 9, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington.

Born April 6, 1944, at Harts, she was a daughter of the late Therit and Sylvia Shelton Towles. Also preceding her in death was one sister, Corky (Johnny) Embresicia; one brother, William Alden “Billy” Farris, and one niece, Sonja “Sparkle” Tabo Tabo.

Jo was a graduate of the University of Charleston (formerly Morris Harvey College), where she was active in many extra curricular activities including the Student Activities Board, and was a teacher at St. Brendans School in North Olmsted, Ohio, before moving to West Virginia. She retired from WVU Extension Service, where she taught low income and pregnant teens about nutrition. Jo was most compassionate about her love of people and children and teaching them about the bible. But most important was her love of God. Jo, her twin sister Flo and sister, Corky taught children’s church for more than 30 years at the Toney Christian Fellowship, where she was a member for 35 years. She enjoyed traveling to Mexico and spending time with the Vizcarra family. She enjoyed crafts at her church and playing cards with her family at each others homes. Jo loved God and her family and she opened her home to everyone, she never met a stranger. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 48 years, Carlos Vizcarra; three daughters, Vikki (Dwayne) Lucas of Harts, and Carla Vizcarra and Nicole Vizcarra, who stayed by her side until she went home to receive all of her heavenly rewards; one son, Cody Vizcarra of Harts; three sisters, Robertta Mezzulo of Strongsville, Ohio, Nell (Ralph) Mezzulo of Santa Rosa, Calif., and her twin sister, Flo (Richard) Carr of Harts; two grandchildren, Gryphon Lucas and Taite Brammer, both of Harts; a special cousin, Sylvia Maynard; two nieces and one nephew that she treated as her own, Kim Light, Becky Carr and Richard Lee Carr; and her great-nephew and nieces that she loved dearly, Erika Eubanks, Sarah Light, Jocelyn Cabauatan “Rosebud” and Justin Carr.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 13, at Toney Christian Fellowship Church with Pastor Donnie Wells officiating. Burial will follow at Adkins-Shelton Cemetery at Harts.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Freeman Funeral Home of Chapmanville is in charge of arrangements.
