Logan tennis athletes win matches at state

The Logan High School tennis team sent seven athletes to the Class AAA state tournament this year.

Action got under way on Thursday in the state meet as Logan No. 1 singles player Zack Hatfield defeated Brandon Galici of Parkersburg South, 8-5, then lost to George Washington’s Ryan Massinople 8-0.

In the No. 2 singles, Logan’s Keith Williamson was ousted by Sven Wurmuth of University 8-2.

In girls’ No. 1 singles, Lauren Chambers was knocked out by Parkersburg’s Cassandra Powell 8-4.

Logan girls’ No. 2 singles player Hayley Hatfield lost to Alyssa Rees of University 8-1.

In doubles, the Lady Cats’ Lauren Chambers and Morgan Browning lost to Cassandra Powell and Amber Kesterson 8-1.

In boys doubles action, Logan No. 1 Zack Hatfield and Williamson defeated University High’s team of Valenzuela and Wurmuth 8-5 to move on to the quarterfinals. The Logan duo was then ousted 8-3.

Logan’s boys’ No. 2 doubles team of Logan Adkins and Jacob Adkins won 8-2 over a Martinsburg doubles team to advance to the semifinals against George Washington.
