HOUGHTON LAKE, Mich. — Helen P. Winegardner Doty, 89, of Houghton Lake, Mich., passed away Wednesday May 15, 2013, at Horizon Senior Living Center in St. Helen, Mich., with her family by her side.
Born January 31, 1924, in Christian, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Louise Burke Winegardner. Also preceding her in death was a son, Terrence D. Ball; brothers, Howard and Buddy Winegardner, and sister, Virginia Perry.
Helen married Edwin O. Doty on February 8, 1975, in Livonia, Mich. The couple moved to Houghton Lake in 1988 from Redford Township, Mich. Helen enjoyed crocheting, cross stitch, crossword puzzles, and was a member of the UAW Local 174.
Survivors include her loving husband of 38 years, Edwin Doty; daughters Gloria O’Dell of North Carolina, Ruth (John) Sanker of Prudenville, Mich., Susan (Robert) Anderson of Florida, Gloria (Stanley) Covelski of Dexter, Mich., Frances Doty of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Janet Ball of Flat Rock, Mich.; sons, Henry Ball, Joseph Ball and Henry J. Doty, all of Houghton Lake, Robert (Janet) Doty of Highland, Mich., and Larry (Dawn) Doty of Tecumseh, Mich.; sister-in-law Beatrice Winegardner of Houghton Lake; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at noon Monday, May 20, at Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel, with Rev. Dr. James N. Kent officiating.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday and from 1-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
