GILBERT, W.Va. — Mary Lovita Ward, 80, of Gilbert, departed this life Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at her residence.
Born March 22, 1933, at Glen Alum, she was a daughter of the late Homer and Ina Carter Smith. Also preceding her in death was her loving husband, Cecil Ward; three brothers, Jim, Thomas and Donnie Smith; a great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Cline; a brother-in-law, Sam Desantos, and two sisters-in-law, Wanda Smith and Imogene Smith.
Mary was a loving wife, wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a graduate of Gilbert High School and a retired Postmaster for Gilbert. Mary enjoyed spending time with her wonderful family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those remaining to love and cherish her memory and to mourn her passing include her daughter, Ina Lynne Ward (Keith) Clay of Alto, Ga.; son, Michael (Mitzie) Ward of Logan; five grandchildren, John (Stacey) Ward of Jacksonville, N.C., Mary Frannie (Johnny) Gilliam of Gainesville, Ga., Shasta Ward of Keymore, Wash., Celia Ward of Lenore and Anthony Ward of Logan; six great-grandchildren, Claudia Blasiol, Stone Blasiol, Damien Blasiol, Gracie Cline, Gabriella Gilliam and Mary Jane Johnson; three brothers, David Smith of Newbury, Md, Paul (Sandy) Smith of Newkent, Va., and Robert (Faye) Smith of Katy, Texas; three sisters, Joyce Desantos of Richmond, Va., Judy (Bennie) Ellis of Wharncliffe and Cherie (Gerald) Hannah of Bluefield; son-in-law, Rusty Gibson of Dahlonega, Ga.; many nieces and nephews and a host of other dear family and friends.
Friends may gather with the family from 6-9 p.m. Friday, June 21, at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel.
