Somewhat early, START celebrated Independence Day on June 27, 2013.
The decorating committee; Donna, Gretchen, JoAnne and Judi, used red, white and blue as the color scheme. All the decorations on the tables were either red, blue, white or a combination, including the tablecloths. Favors were old fashion Moon Pies.
START confectioner Zettie Brown baked a cake and decorated the top with a facsimile of the American flag. She used strawberries for the red stripes. We are so proud of Zettie for her baking and decorating skills.
START president Frank Thompson opened the meeting and brother Robert Perry gave the opening prayer. Everyone was reminded to remember the family of Geraldine Bunch in their prayers.
After everyone ate a delicious lunch and chit chatted with their table partners, it was time to recognize those with a June birthday. The birthday celebrants included Uhel Adkins, Mrs. Bellam, Terry Cline, William T. Coyer, Mike Donahue, James Grimmette, Gertie Moore, Robert Frazier, and Ada Mae Trent. As the members serenaded the birthday celebrants by singing the “Happy Birthday” song accompanied by START pianist Alice Harrison, START photographer Shirley Brown took a group picture.
Prior to the business session, START’s resident vocalist Dixie Frazier gave an arousing rendition of the song “God Bless the U.S.A”. The enthusiasm she displayed while singing brought the group to their feet.
During the business session, a committee was formed to nominate officers for the election to be held in August. Frank Thompson, president, announced that he would not be a candidate for an office. After serving as president for ten years plus, he felt it was time to step aside.
The 34 members signing the attendance register were Peggy Mosley, Angeline Bassham, Bob and Dixie Frazier, Robert Perry, Alice Harrison, JoAnne Hensley, Barbara Spears, Norma Jean Nelson, Merlin and Delores Spears, Elmer and Lounice Jeffrey, Lou Arnold, Ella Cook, Jane Grimmette, Alice Ramiscal, Lessie Bailey, Frank and Elaine Thompson, Pebble Vance, Gertie Moore, Gretchen Donahue, Paul and Donna Thibault, Betty Gentry, Patricia Doczi, Arthur and Barbara Brunty, Pauline Jeffrey, Rev. Randy Sites, Shirley and Zettie Brown, and Mae Osborne.
The next meeting will be at noon on Thursday, July 25, 2013, in the Fellowship Hall of Bruce McDonald United Methodist Church. START meetings are open to anyone that would like to attend—the more, the merrier.
