There is an urgent need for platelet donors, as well as donors with types O negative, B negative and A negative blood. The Red Cross has teamed with the Burch Branch of Energy Express, the Mingo County Health Department, Williamson Memorial Hospital and Americorps to host a charity blood drive on July 29, 2 p.m. - 7 p.m., at the Burch Middle School at Delbarton.
Blood donors must be healthy, that means feel well and be able to perform normal activities, if you have a chronic condition such as diabetes, healthy also means that you are being treated and the condition is under control; be at least 17 years old in most states, or 16 years old with parental consent if allowed by state law and weigh at least 110 lbs., additional weight requirements apply for donors 18 years old and younger and all high school donors.
All donors will be entered into a drawing for various prizes donated by local vendors.
