Logan High School softball player Aarron Ward has recently been selected to compete in the prestigious Queen of Diamonds Showcase South at Winthrop University on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

The Queen of Diamonds Showcase, now in its seventh season, is part of the Queen of Diamonds Showcase events which are the largest fast pitch softball showcases of its kind in the United States.

The event continues to attract athletes from more than 30 states and Canada. Its big brother — the Queen of the Diamonds Showcase North — is in its 18th season.

Both events have a combined 1,500 applicants in which 264 have been picked.

The showcase is unique as athletes apply to the event individually and are selected based on many criteria ranging from ability, potential, academics, graduation yaer, coaches requests and referrals.

Ward pitches and plays first base for the Logan softball team and plays summer travel ball for the USSSA Pride Elite 16-and-under team.

Ward is the daughter of Harold and Dot Ward of Lake.
