On Monday, August 26, 2013, at approximately 2:44 a.m., Deputies J. Mathis and J. Miller were dispatched by Logan 911 Center to respond to a single motor vehicle crash.

The crash, which was reported as a rollover, took place W.Va. Route 44, near Scott’s Carpet. The report said there were injuries and possible entrapment.

Upon the deputies arrival, they observed the vehicle resting on its top and partially in the northbound lane of Rt 44.

The vehicle appeared to have been traveling southbound on Rt. 44, when the driver lost control and crossed into the northbound lane. The vehicle went into the ditch and traveled several feet before striking a steel culvert pipe, then continued several more feet before striking a CSX railroad utility pole, breaking the pole in half before coming to a rest on its top.

Both the driver and the passenger were transported by ambulance to Logan Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Deputies went to LRMC to follow up on the investigation and learned that the driver, Ricky Aaron Blankenship of Gilbert, was in critical condition, and the passenger, Kyle Evans of Gilbert, was in serious but stable condition.

Deputies say that alcohol did appear to be a factor into this crash, but it is still under investigation at this time
