WILLIAMSON - C. Michael Sparks, the Prosecuting Attorney of Mingo County, has released the following press release regarding allegations of wrong doing and the public’s requests for him to step down from his position until an investigation by the WV Bar Association and State Disciplinary Board are concluded and an official ruling is made.
“I stand on my record of hard work and achievements as Mingo County Prosecuting Attorney and remain steadfastly committed to serving Mingo County with distinction.
The latest media grandstanding by others is a perfect example of the petty factional politics and personal vindictiveness that has plagued Mingo County government for decades. It is regrettable that others would exploit these difficult circumstances for perceived personal or political gain. The motivation for much of the resentful conduct and unfounded accusations is malice over being rejected by me for employment or by voters in previous elections. While I deeply respect the freedom of speech and assembly, self-serving demagoguery serves no constructive purpose and merely reinforces the prevailing negative image of Mingo County.
I have voluntarily assisted the federal investigation and will continue to do so. I look forward to telling the whole story and aggressively defending my integrity at the appropriate time. However, there are greater issues at stake than safeguarding my reputation. My commitment to the cause of justice through a successful federal prosecution must take priority over my own self-interests at this juncture.
Meanwhile, I ask for patience and your prayers.”
Further information regarding the investigations will be released as they become available.
