The Chapmanville Regional High School golf team’s season ended quietly Monday with the Class AA Region 4 golf tournament at Big Bend.
The Tigers fell short of their quest to return to the state high school golf tournamnet as a team, but junior golfer Jacob Workman kept the Tiger tradition going as he qualified as one of the top two medalists to represent the region in the Double-A class at state.
Workman fired a 79 and later defeated a fellow golfer from Nicholos County on the first playoff hole to claim his spot in next week’s state golf tournament in Wheeling.
“We haven’t had a great season this year, but Jake has played steady, keepng his goal of making the state tournament in his sights,” Chapmanville golf coach Tommy Kirk said. “Jake works hard on his game. He plays all summer on the junior tour around the state to prepare for high school golf. Jacob is a talented golfer. He has grew about four inches taller this summer and he has been fighting his swing all fall, but he is rounding into shape at the right time.”
