LIVE OAK, Texas – Randy Smith, the immediate past President/CEO of Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union (RBFCU), was honored by the Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) at their 50th anniversary conference at The Greenbrier. Smith was inducted into the DCUC Hall of Honor, which was established 13 years ago as a means of recognizing individuals whose contributions and support of the credit union movement have added great value to the DCUC and defense credit union community.
Smith was recognized for his leadership at RBFCU and his contributions to the South Central Texas community and credit union industry. During his 25 years as CEO of RBFCU, the credit union expanded from $295 million in assets to more than $5 billion and from 64,000 members to almost 400,000.
Having served in the U.S. Air Force, Smith brought with him a deep understanding of the challenges military service members and their families face. He used this knowledge to provide RBFCU members better products and services to make their lives easier.
Smith continues to be very active outside the credit union community, volunteering with the Children’s Miracle Network, the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County and the Alamo Colleges Foundation. Even with his broad range of service, he never lost his focus on serving the military membership, including credit union-wide initiatives supporting fundraising efforts to serve the military.
The DCUC’s Hall of Honor award recognizes recipients whose lifelong achievements have been exceptionally noteworthy. Since 2000, only 45 individuals have been selected for this coveted award.
Smith, better known as “Mike” during his days in Logan, was the 1964 senior class president of Logan High School. He is married to Elaine Bryant Smith, also of Logan. The Smiths currently reside in New Braunfels, Texas.
