Two young women from Logan are among 28 contestants who will be vying for the 2014 Miss West Virginia USA® title this coming weekend.
Krysta Kemp, 21, is the daughter of George and Mary Kemp. She is a Logan High School graduate and a student at West Virginia University School of Medicine. She is a full-time student and WVU cheerleader.
Kemp is being sponsored by family, friends, and a host of local businesses.
Her activities include traveling across the nation to cheer on WVU teams, coaching Special Olympics cheerleading squads, spending time with her family and friends, and participating in social events at skilled nursing facilities in Morgantown.
Stephanie Thornhill, 18, is the daughter of Ed and Linda Thornhill. She is a Logan High School graduate and a student at WVU Institute of Technology.
Thornhill is being sponsored by family, friends and a host of businesses.
Her activities include dance, hunting, fishing and helping with various programs at First Baptist Church of McConnell.
Throughout the USA Pageant system, from the local level to the national level, contestants are judged in three areas: Interview Competition, Swimsuit Competition and Evening Gown Competition.
Winner of the Miss West Virginia USA® 2014 will compete for the title of Miss USA® 2014 and a list of other prizes, including a four-year Academic Scholarship valued at $45,600 to Lindenwood University of St. Charles, Mo.
Each finalist in the competition will receive a four-year Academic Scholarship valued at $40,000 to Lindenwood University, among a list of other items.
Each semi-finalist will receive a four-year Academic Scholarship valued at $29,600 to Lindenwood University.
The pageant will be held Fri.-Sun., Oct. 25-27, at the Flatwoods Days Hotel/Conference Center in Flatwoods. Located on I-79, at mile marker 67, the Days Hotel is easily accessible from any direction.
