The body of a Middlesboro man who has been missing for a week was found on the riverbank behind Hardee’s in Harlan on Monday afternoon.
According to a previous report, Christopher Allen Buell, 35, walked off from Harlan ARH Hospital parking lot at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 25.
Harlan County Deputy Coroner Jim Rich confirmed to the Enterprise it was Buell who was found deceased after his family was notified.
“Upon arrival, we located the male subject lying face down on the riverbank deceased,” said Kentucky State Police Trooper Josh Howard. “A Golden Alert was issued on Nov. 26 for Buell. Post 10 received assistance from numerous agencies throughout this investigation. We received assistance from Harlan County Emergency Management, Laurel County Emergency Management, Knott County Rough Terrain Canine Rescue and the Harlan County Rescue Squad.”
Howard said the body was turned over to the Harlan County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy will be done in Frankfort to rule out any foul play.
Brian O’Brien, of 106.3 radio in Middlesboro, shared a statement on behalf of Buell’s family.
“The family would like to express their gratitude for the many prayers and the help in looking for Chris since he went missing last week.”
Police said no foul play is suspected.
Howard was also assisted at the scene by Trooper James Earl Hensley, the Harlan City Fire Department, the Harlan City Police Department and the Harlan County Rescue Squad.
