NEWTOWN — Heading into Christmas break the Chapmanville Regional High School girls’ basketball team is in good shape.
The Lady Tigers scored a big win on Wednesday night at Mingo Central as Chapmanville came away with a 51-38 victory over the Cardinal Conference and Class AA sectional Miners.
Chapmanville improved to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in the Cardinal Conference with the win.
The Lady Tigers led 18-8 after one quarter, 31-17 at the half and 37-31 after three. A 14-7 fourth quarter edge by Chapmanville then put the game away.
CRHS senior guard Kristin DesRocher led all scorers with 26 points. Abby Marcum and Hillary Hainer tossed in eight points each. Shian Meeks had four, while Codi Conley and Lexi Martin chipped in with two points apiece. Autumn Blankenship finished with one point.
Mingo Central dropped to 3-1, 1-1 on the season.
Kiearia Hammond led Mingo Central with eight points, while Ashley Curry scored seven and Tyshira Joplin six.
The Lady Tigers are scheduled to return to action on Saturday at home against Tolsia in another Cardinal Conference matchup against a sectional foe. Tip time is set for 7:30 p.m.
Chapmanville then has one more game over Christmas break as Class AAA county rival Logan comes to down for a Dec. 30 clash. The next game is then Jan. 2 at home against Wayne, yet another team which is also a sectional and conference opponent.
