It was the Jon Elmore Show on Monday night at Logan High School’s Willie Akers Arena.

Elmore, George Washington’s senior guard, exploded for 44 points and almost single-handedly defeated the homestanding Wildcats as the Patriots won 68-48 over Logan.

George Washington improved to 4-2 on the season with the win while Logan dipped below .500 at 2-3.

The Patriots led Logan 15-8 after one quarter and just 27-26 at the half as the Wildcats outscored GW 18-12 in the second period.

But it was all Elmore and George Washington in the second half as the Patriots outscored the Cats 20-9 in the third to grab a 47-35 lead after three. GW outpointed Logan 21-13 in the fourth.

Brynden “Worm” Street paced Logan with 14 points. Kareem Clansy tossed in 11 points and Zac Acord 10. Trevor Abbott, a transfer from Mingo Central, had three points, while Zak Miller was held to two points. Braxton Goff, Alex Toler, Donnie Toppings and Brenton Vance tallied two each.

Logan is back in action on Saturday night at home against Nitro. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Wildcats then go to Class AA Westside on Jan. 10 to renew an old Double-A rivalry. The two teams met in the 2005 Class AA state championship game with Logan winning 60-56. Logan then hosts Point Pleasant on Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the daylong King Coal Classic at Willie Akers Arena.

Nitro has struggled mightily this season and are 0-3. The NHS Wildcats are set to play the night before the Logan game at Ripley.

Nitro has lost to Winfield (84-63) and Point Pleasant (71-47) and was crushed by 60 points at the hands of Class AA Putnam County rival Poca (90-30). The Dots, a Cardinal Conference team, blasted Tolsia 68-16 on Monday night.
