Alexis Tammy Louise Brown has the honor of being Harlan County’s first baby born in 2014.
Entering this world at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 2, Alexis weighed 7 pounds and 6 ounces. She was 20 inches long.
Dr. Yung P. Lee delivered Alexis at the Harlan ARH Hospital.
Mother Heather Suttles, 22, of Cawood, and the baby’s father, Oney Brown Jr., both said they are excited to have the first baby born in 2014.
“This is my second child,” said Suttles. “She has a little brother, Keden Suttles, who is 2 years old, at home. She also has an older half-sister, Camille Brown, who is 12 years old.
Grandparents are Anthony and Flossie Suttles, of Cawood, Joseph and Janie Taylor, of Pike County, and Oney Brown Sr. of Cawood.
Suttles said after approximately six hours of labor she delivered her baby girl, Alexis.
“Her little brother is so excited. He has been giving her hugs and kisses each time he sees her,” said Suttles. “We’re excited to take her home.”
Lee is a longtime obstetrician at Harlan ARH Hospital.
“I delivered both the mother, Heather, and the father, Oney, and I hope one day to deliver a fourth generation to the family,” said Lee.
To take home with them, the hospital provided a free car seat, a bathtub filled with baby products, sleepers, diapers and lots of other goodies.
