COMFORT – Police confirmed the death of a man and woman in Comfort from an apparent murder suicide shooting Thursday morning, Jan. 2, 2014.

“It appears the man shot his wife and then shot himself,” said a West Virginia State Trooper on the scene.

Police would not release the names of the man and woman, but said the couple was in their 40s.

Police said the couple had two children, ages 10 and 6, and that the children were at home at the time of the shooting.

“They ran out of the home and called 911,” the Trooper said.

First Sgt. Michael Baylous, public information officer for the West Virginia State Police, said the shooting happened at 6298 Joe’s Creek Road in Comfort between 8 and 9 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014.

“We don’t have many details at this time as this remains an ongoing investigation,” Baylous said.
