CHAPMANVILLE — Following last Saturday night’s 30-point loss at rival Logan in the King Coal Classic, the Chapmanville Regional High School girls’ basketball team was in need of a break.
The Lady Tigers got it on Monday night as Chapmanville rolled to an easy 66-40 win at home over Class A Tug Valley at Chapmanville’s Danny Godby Gymnasium.
Chapmanville (6-4) raced out to a 21-4 lead after one quarter, turning numerous Tug Valley turnovers into several easy fast-break layups.
The Lady Tigers outscored the Panthers (3-6) 16-12 in the second quarter to grab a 37-16 halftime lead.
Chapmanville coach David Williamson then emptied his bench as the Lady Tigers led 47-23 after three. CRHS outscored Tug Valley 19-17 in the fourth.
The Lady Tigers led by as many as 27 points.
Chapmanville had several easy looks at the basket and were 28-for-48 shooting for the game for 58.3 percent. The Lady Tigers were a sizzling 16-for-24 shooting in the first half for 66.7 percent.
Tug Valley was 15-of-42 shooting for 35.7 percent for the game.
The Lady Panthers committed 26 turnovers to 15 for CRHS.
Chapmanville was led by senior guard Kristin DesRocher’s 17 points. She was 7-for-9 shooting and also grabbed three rebounds, dished out four assists and had seven steals in just 18 minuts of play. DesRocher is inching closer to 1,000 career points and should get it soon.
A total of 14 Lady Tigers reached the scorebooks in the blowout.
Codi Conley finished with seven points. NeNe Osborne and Abby Marcum had six points each. Meeks had three steals and Marcum had two. Marcum also pulled down six rebounds.
Hillary Hainer had five points and two boards.
NeNe Osborne, Hannah Vance, Lexi Martin and Autumn Blankenship all had four points each.
Osborne also had eight assists, three steals and three boards. Vance contributed two steals and two rebounds. Blankenship also had two boards.
Kortni Packo, Taylor Manns, Alyx Bush and Kim Lambert had two points each. Megan Satterfield chipped in with one point.
Chapmanville was outrebounded 23-22 by Tug Valley.
The Lady Panthers were led by Madison May’s nine points. Katie Robinson, Adreana Vance and Taylor Presley had seven each. Hannah Armstrong had four points, Elizabeth Dotson had three, Payton Marcum two and Lori Messer one.
Chapmanville was 7-for-10 from the free throw line and 3-of-8 from 3-point land. Tug Valley 6-for-10 from the foul line and 4-for-15 from beyond the 3-point arc.
DesRocher, Hainer and Conley each hit 3s for CRHS. Meeks, Marcum, Martin and Lambert each had blocked shots.
The Lady Tigers are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday at Tolsia in a 7:30 p.m. Cardinal Conference contest. CRHS is currently 5-0 in conference play.
Chapmanville then plays at Scott on Friday night in another league contest.
