Lady Billies roll past Greater Beckley Christian

MAN — The Man High School girls’ basketball team won its second straight game with Monday night’s 43-19 blowout win at home over Greater Beckley Christian at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse.

The Lady Billies (3-6) were led by Mika McCoy who poured in 13 points. Freshman Hunter Harvey also reached double digits with 10 points.

Man jumped out to an early 9-0 lead and never looked back.

McCoy jumpstarted the Lady Billies, hitting two baskets to open the game, giving MHS a 4-0 lead at the 5:15 mark.

Morgan Conn converted a three-point play to make it 7-0. Hannah Harvey then hit a jumper in the lane to give the Lady Billies the 9-0 lead.

Greater Beckley then went on a 7-2 run to cut the Man deficit to 11-7 after the first quarter of play.

Man then outscored GBC 13-0 in the second stanza to take a 24 -7 halftime advantage.

“We hit our foul shots tonight,” Lady Billies’ coach Tonia Ward said. “We were 10-for-12.”

Man built its lead to 20 points to open the third quarter of play as McCoy hit a 3-pointer with 6:47 showing on the clock.

Man pushed the lead to 25 points mid-way in the third period on Conn’s two free throws to make it 35-10. The Lady Billies held a 37-13 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play.

Ward then went to the bench and brought in her reserves as the final quarter was even at 6-6.

Conn added seven points for the Lady Billies. Hannah Harvey had six, Misty Dempsey three and Tiffany Belcher and Courtney Hinkle chipped in with two each.

Greater Beckley Christain was led by Brooke Matney with eight points.

The Lady Billies were scheduled to play at Cross Lanes Christian on Tuesday night. Man then plays at Tug Valley on Thursday night at 6 and hosts Wyoming East on Jan. 20.
