Logan County’s young chess player, Advait Patel, has now attained the rank of National Master following his win of the 7th grade section at the K-12 National Chess Championship held in December in Orlando, Fla.

“Adi was on a roll,” Adi’s mother, Ruhi Patel, said. “He won first place with an outstanding 7-0 score, which is rare playing all the games on Board One.”

Mrs. Patel said when Adi was called on stage to receive his trophy, everyone in the crowd was cheering.

“My husband and I were in tears,” Mrs. Patel said. “Every single person in the crowd was clapping and cheering for Adi and came up to us to congratulate us. This was that proud moment we were waiting for.”

The win placed Adi’s rating to over 2200, placing him in the Master rank. He was also selected for Team USA. As a member of Team USA, Adi can represent the country at the Youth World Championship to be held in South Africa.
