28th Annual Dehue Community Reunion held

DEHUE — The 28th Annual Dehue Community Reunion was held August 9-10, 2013, at

Dehue Chambers Grade School on Rum Creek. Former Dehue residents from all over came home to keep memories of their former community alive.

States represented included West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, California, North Carolina, Indiana, Missouri, Illinois, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Michigan.

The event began Friday evening, Aug. 9, with guests enjoying refreshments, fellowship and music by DJ Randy and Shelia Justice of North Carolina.

On Saturday, the program began with a memorial service and blessing of the food presented by the Rev. John Paul Ingram of Buckhannon. Special music was provided by Billy and Harley Flemings and Linda Ison Gore.

Those that have passed away during 2012-2013 and the beginning of 2014 were Rick Albano, Paul Chafin, Earnest Miskolczi, Nixola “Nikki” Smith, Charlie Carerre, Glenna Farmer, Clifford Farmer, Terry Grimmett, Dorma Vance Fleming, George Nisbet, Kenneth Keno Polo, Paul Noe Jr., Dwight McCoy, Hattie Jobe Lewis, Mary Lou Simmons Propst, Beatrice Midkiff Peyton, Lena Carerre Adkins, Ora Miller, Bernie Brumfield, Raymond Flemings, Molly Robinson Johnson, Odis Ratcliff, Iula (Boots Porter) Hartley, Carol Sue Lee Hopeck, Karen Lycans Rhea, Wilson Bill Chaney, Eloise Beatrice Prichard, John Webb Jr., and Anita Ruiz Talbott.

Celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary with us were, William Ghi Ghi and Dorothy McCormick Carerre.

Skeet Adkins was the master of ceremonies for the prize giveaways. Drawing of the door prizes was: Miriam Burchfield Bradsher.

Prizes were given to David and Bobbie Gostovich for traveling from California, James “Mick” Robinson from Florida, and Anne Easterling Russ from Maryland.

The oldest women present were Helen Hatton Pence, Alice Mae Ingram, Ethel Childers Behe and Jeanette Watts. The oldest men present were William Ghi Ghi Carerre and Bill Johnson.

Anne Easterling Russ hand painted wine bottles/with flowers and decorated the tables for us. Special jewelry pieces, handcrafted by Nancy Ferguson Early, were donated to the reunion for prizes. Special prizes were donated by Marguerite Suite.

A printed framed picture of the old Dehue Grade School was presented to Ray Albright on his retirement from Dehue Chambers Grade School. Mr. Albright taught at the old Dehue Grade School, and was the principal at the Dehue Chambers Grade School for many years, all together working for more than 50 years in the Logan County school system.

The Reunion committee would like to thank everyone who helped in any way to make The Annual Dehue Community Reunion a huge success that it is. Also, special thanks to Skeet Adkins for his help for the past six years, while living in Logan and caring for his mother, Lena Adkins. Adkins has returned to his Delaware home and he will be missed. Also thanks to William “Ghi Ghi” Carerre for always being there to help.
