West Virginia State Police (WVSP) received a call about a stolen truck and later learned the accused thief tried to scrap the vehicle.

The victim told WVSP he had allowed Daniel L. McGuckin, 26, of Chapmanville, to use his truck to go to the store, but he didn’t bring it back. According to the victim’s report, McGuckin told him the next day that four to five drug dealers had jumped him and stolen the truck.

The criminal complaint filed in the Magistrate Court of Logan County says the officer obtained a statement from Herman Williams, owner of H & P Recycle, which stated the defendant had attempted to scrap the victim’s vehicle after he claimed it was stolen from him. The complaint also says the officer viewed surveillance video which shows McGunkin pull up in the stolen vehicle.

McGuckin was charged with grand larceny (auto). His bond was set at $3,500.
