“And if thou will walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and will keep my statutes and my judgments.” (I Kings 9:4)
The great King David was dead, and his son Solomon reigned in his stead. He had built the magnificent temple and dedicated it to the Lord. The Lord then appeared to Solomon and reiterated the covenant He had made with David. He reminded the young king that He would establish the Kingdom of Israel forever if Solomon would walk before Him as David had done. It would require something of him; however, he must obey God, keeping His commandments, statutes, and judgments.
The Lord requires each of His children to do the same. His standards have not changed. His expectations for each person is that we trust Him and obey Him. The Lord expects those who claim to be Christians to show by all we say, do and think that we do as He has commanded as we look at our lives, we fall short of what He has told us to be His Holy Word reminds us that we are to be obedient.
Walking before God in a way that is pleasing to Him is not always easy. There are pitfalls and stumbling blocks that make the journey through life difficult. If we keep our eyes on the Lord; however, he will guide us safely to our destination — a home in heaven with Him. Who could could ask for more?
If we would walk before the Lord,
Uprightly, and in integrity of heart,
To do as He has commanded,
From us He will not depart.
And as we keep His statutes and judgments,
And live for Him each day,
He will guide us safely home,
In His perfect way.
Dear Father, Help me to walk before you, in a way that is pleasing to you. In Jesus’ name I pray. A-men.
