MAN — Junior Mikle Scott Rowe blasted a two-run homer over the left field fence onto the tennis courts to lead the Man High School baseball team to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Buffalo on Friday at Man’s Dr. Juan Nordelo Field.

The win capped a good week for the Hillbillies which are on a three-game winning streak. Man, 10-3 on the season and ranked No. 10 in the state last week in Class A, routed 3A Lincoln County 14-2 on Wednesday and also won 11-6 at home over Valley Fayette on Thursday night at home.

The Billies are much improved from last year, when Man only won seven games.

In Friday’s game, Austin Cook was credited with the win on the mound.

Man got just three hits off Buffalo losing pitcher Aaron Lewis but it was good enough to notch the win. Buffalo had nine hits. Both teams commited an error.

Noah Maynard recorded the save for Man.

Buffalo took the early 2-0 lead, scoring twice off Cook in the top of the third inning on a two-RBI single off the bat of the Bison’s John Fisher.

Man was then able to plate three runs in the bottom of the fourth frame off Lewis.

Braden Griffin reached on an error and stole second base. Cayce Mullins and John Thomas Keffer both struck out and freshman Cameron Simpson then laced an RBI single to cut the Buffalo lead to 2-1 as Griffin scored.

Rowe then got what proved to be the game winning hit with his two-run shot, putting Man up for good at 3-2.

Man’s three hits were the homer by Rowe and two singles — one each from Griffin and Simpson.

Buffalo was led by Laythen Good, who went 3-for-4 at the plate. Blake Caplinger was 2-for-4, while Gyayoung Kim was 2-for-2. John Fisher and Lewis had one hit each.

Buffalo fell to 7-7 on the season.

* In the win over Lincoln County, the Billies’ Baley Beckwith was 5-for-5 with a double and three RBI.

Noah Maynard was 2-for-3 with two RBI.

John Thomas Keffer was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBI.

Braden Griffin had two runs batted in, while Cayce Mullins was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Cameron Simpson added a double for Man. Kenny Joe Adkins also had a hit.

Mikle Scott Rowe was the winning pitcher. He went six inning and gave up two earned runs and four hits with four strikeouts and five walks.

In the Valley game, Keffer and Cayce Mullins each hit a home run for the Billies.

Man was scheduled to get back into action with Saturday’s home tournament game against Moorefield. Chapmanville was also in the tourney and was set to take on the Yellow Jackets as well.

Man then goes to Class AAA county rival Logan on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. contest at Logan’s Roger E. Gertz Field. The Billies then go to Belfry (Ky.) on Wednesday at 6:30, before hosting River View on Friday night at 7.
