LRMC Auxiliary celebrates Volunteer Week

Logan Regional Medical Center Auxiliary celebrated Volunteer Week with a luncheon Sat., April 12, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.


President Beverly Roark opened the meeting with a welcome to members and congratulating them on the excellent service they had rendered to patients and the hospital this past year. Following an invocation given by Auxilian Cecil Willis, lunch was catered by Granny Jack’s.


Auxilians observing birthdays during May, June, July and August were recognized with a gift.


They were Nora Willis, Gay Cook, Macelene Smith, Nancy Garrett, Mary Beth Ferrell, Lotus Martin and Norma Miller.


A special presentation was given honoring new auxilian, Barbara Meade, who received her 50-hour patch. Meade was congratulated for her hard work in the brief time she has been a member of the auxiliary.


Norma Miller announced the retirement of Gloria Martin, who was unable to attend the luncheon. Martin, a past president of the auxiliary, will be missed by everyone. She has served the auxiliary well for 35 years.


Roark talked about the old and new rules of the auxiliary and emphasized the importance of getting substitutes when you are unable to work your various shifts at the hospital.


An election of officers for 2014-2016 was held following presentation of the slate of officers prepared by the nominating committee which was composed of Alice Cheek, Chairperson, Mary Casey and Jane Watkins. New officers elected were Betty Lambert, president; Norma Miller, 1st vice president; Pat Joe White, 2nd vice president, Peggy Heatherman, secretary; Midge Cox, treasurer; and Pauline Fortune, co-treasurer.


An amendment to the Constitution recommended by the Board Members and presented by Alice Cheek, Parliamentarian, was voted on and carried by majority of members in attendance.


Gifts were given to the members from the LRMC in recognition of volunteer week and also from the auxiliary.


The meeting was closed by the members reading of “Prayer for Hospital Auxilians”.
